It does not have to be this way.
People that I meet attribute the cause of their current fears, regrets and limitations to events and experiences outside of their direct control. They explain their condition as caused by some past event, an unchangeable factor or some experience that they have been through. They look at these events that they have experienced and give control to them. It is in this way that they make themselves victims and prevent themselves from getting over the experience. (Meta Reflections 2011)
The truth about causation is that they are the cause of their experience of reality. Reality is what it is and your experience of it results from how you represent it, the meanings you give to it, the beliefs that you develop about it and you use these to explain it to yourself and others.
We do not deal with reality as it is but as filtered through our model of the world.
